-Visuals- 8.7/10
The graphics here are for the most part relatively nice. They are actually somewhat of a mish mash between the good and the OK, and to some that may be a problem as nothing really stands out but at the same time nothing is really horrible either, although some of the textures are a tad muted and almost smudgy looking, if that makes any sense. What the graphics do best however is fit the mood and ambiance of the game wonderfully. This is a pretty good representation of American suburbia and what it would look like after a hostile invasion. I guess the best way to sum it up is to say it's not the best or worst looking game but it certainly ranks highly in mood and feel.
-Sound- 8.5/10
Well...it sounds like battles should sound. Voice acting is certainly fine as well, so, nothing to really brag about, nothing to really complain about. And I have always said while sound can certainly bring out the high points in a game it's almost more important that it not detract from the game.
-Gameplay- 8.4/10
Solid, if unspectacular gameplay pretty much sums up my feelings on this game. I am not gonna go so far as to say play one FPS you have played them all but I will go so far as to say play one solid FPS and you have essentially played this game. Ammo is plentiful, as are weapons, and i admit I did have a good time using various guns. My only real complaint, and it's not too big of one actually , is it is relatively easy to die, however, to be fair it's just as easy to kill the enemies, only takes a couple of shots either way. There are a couple of wrinkles thrown in as well. For one you get to control a remote controlled attack vehicle (well, you get to aim and fire it) and you also get to fire from a Humvee, both of these missions were good fun. Now the bad wrinkle, the #@%^&$&( helicopter mission will, I promise you drive you insane. The controls are wacky at best, the aiming and weapon deployment sucks at best and to make matters worse it's a freaking escort mission, and I personally know NO ONE who likes escort missions, lol. But I guess if that is the only real thing to complain about then the gameplay can certainly be labeled as at least solid.
-Story- 9.2/10
By 2015 the middle East is in the utmost turmoil. Oil prices have sky rocketed, the world economy is in ruins and the United States has withdrawn into an isolationist policy in an attempt to simply survive. By 2024 North and South Korea have been united and have become a force in Southeast Asia and in 2025 they have launched an attack on an impoverished United States and taken over all of the USA west of the Mississippi. You play as Robert Jacobs, a former Marine Corps combat helicopter pilot who is taken prisoner and is going to be deported to a work prison in Alaska. While being transported you are rescued by members of the resistance movement who recruit you to help fly a helicopter and help launch an attack on occupied San Fransisco. I freaking LOVED the story, and with good reason. It is an intense, emotional story and the only real faults I had was that the game is so short I didn't really get time to become emotionally attached to the main characters.
P.S. John Milius is rumored to have written the story, yes, the same guy who wrote Red Dawn, so....like it ya might like this!
-Overall- 8.8/10
Overall I am glad i played this game, except for the damn helicopter mission, shut up SB. It was a nice diversion from the more serious (J)RPG's I normally play. And if it had been longer (I finished it in @6 hrs) and the story had been just a little more fleshed out this could have been an incredible game!
