-Visuals- 9.7/10
Ya know, I cannot help but wonder if Uncharted 2 has made me a bit jaded. Yes, this game looks incredible, yes it is almost cinematic in it's presentation and looks simply awesome. But, and this is weird, I swear I was simply not overwhelmed as I was by the game's precursor. Now, I freely admit some of the scenes, especially the desert and the decrepit ship yard scenes were awesome to look at, as was the bazaar and of course the various underground areas and jungles were, as usual, awesome as well. But, and evidently from reading other reviews, perhaps it's me, and perhaps it is a bit of oh well, same old, same old, but I simply was not overwhelmed as I was in Uncharted 2. Even having said that I freely admit this game looks better than 99% of the games currently out there. So, high score, yes, of course, but I admit with a few little reservations, I felt up close especially some things were not as crisp as they could have been (foliage, stone works, etc) and some of the backgrounds seemed to have such an attention to detail that the images became just a tad blurred to me (or maybe I need to have my eyeglass prescription updated). Still, all in all an awesome looking game certainly.
-Sound- 9.6/10
Sweeping music sets the tone, look and feel of the game wonderfully. Absolutely no complaints here. I actually found myself really listening to the music and not only listening but enjoying it quite a bit! The vocals are, as usual, spot on as well, although I did get a tad tired of Sully's repetitious comments while I was looking around. I understand this is a programming issue but I felt it would have been better if they had programmed it so that he didn't start the over and over and over comments until I had looked around for more than 30 seconds. Gunshots sound like gunshots, background noises are appropriate and realistic. My only real complaint is that I didn't feel quite the emotion from the characters as I did in the first two games. I don't know, once again maybe it's me but I felt Uncharted 2 did a slightly better job with the voice acting.
-Gameplay- 9.6/10
The game does many things well, and few things badly, well, seriously probably nothing badly. The jumping and platforming are not up to some games standards but are most definitely adequate while the gun play and battles have been improved if that is possible from previous installments. I didn't feel that I had to find one exact way to win battles this time which sometimes seemed to be the case in the past. I dunno, maybe I am getting used to the series, finally lol, but this game seemed to be just a tad easier, and honestly I was OK with that than the previous two Uncharted's. Pretty much the best way to describe the gameplay would be that it is truly solid, and combined with the sound, visuals and style it created a great game.
-Story- 9.3/10
This might have been the weak point here for me, and honestly I am not sure why. It just seemed I wasn't as engrossed in the story as I have been before. I did like the insight into drake and Scully's relationship quite alot, but there CERTAINLY could have been more Elena, LOL. But, and I really cannot put my finger on it, for whatever reason I just wasn't as emotionally involved as I have been before, still, it is certainly much better than 90% of the games out there.
-Overall- 9.6/10
It's hard to not be a tad jaded and not be a tad tired of hearing accoltaes about this game, but I will say they are all pretty much deserved. Yes, the game is simply that good. It's actually more than a game, it's an experiene, and what more could one ask for.
