This is an interesting assessment. One the one hand the sheer amount of things happening on the screen is no where near as copious as in Resistance 2. The battles are much less involved and the enemies are nowhere near as numerous. I also feel the environments are much more stark as in the first installment and while the environs do provide color the landscapes and backgrounds are much more bleak and wasted, as certainly fits the mood and feel of the game. This is a world that the Chimera have devastated and it shows. Not only does it show but it is highlighted by the textures and attention to the small details that is portrayed so wonderfully in this game. While there is the occasional flicker I seldom, nay, make that almost never, experienced any slow-downs or other graphical issues. The game simply looks phenomenal and while the facial expressions could have been a tad better, a tad better is all. This is simply a perfect example of story, gameplay and graphics melding seamlessly and damn near perfect. Not a perfect looking game, but certainly a seriously great looking game where everything clicks almost, not totally, but almost perfectly.

I am going to be brief....very, very brief...WOW...WOW...WOW...this game is what others should aspire to be. The ambiance is unreal, the mood is so, very, very scary and most certainly sets the mood of hopelessness and desperation. As I said, brief, simply incredible.

Everything, and I mean everything Resistance 2 got wrong was fixed in this version. You can carry every weapon you discover and switch between them very easily. Ammo is no issue although unlike previous incarnations health can, and often will be an issue, but if you play smartly it will not be a game breaker. What this system does is make the battles so much more incredible as you are not forced to choose between weapons and you can fight the battles as you see fit. The battles are also much less of a huge full scale all out war between hundreds of enemies and attacks happening everywhere and non-stop. Instead it's much more a game of guerrilla warfare, and while that doesn't mean there aren't often many, many enemies to defeat it does mean there is more thought, planning and skill involved in the typical battles here than in the previous Resistance games. I simply felt the battle system was pretty much as good as it gets. It's not some ridiculous impossible to remember the controls FPS but what it is is an extremely well conceived and designed game where the battles are certainly tough and strategic but also seriously fun.
