-Visuals- 9.6/10
I was skeptical at first on the graphics based off the trailers I had seen, but to truly get a feel for the graphics, you have to play the game. All of the cutscene graphics are done nearly to perfection. The flashbacks in the game are placed perfectly and the final battle with Liquid Ocelot is simply incredible. Only problem is the blandness. Everything just seems bland during gameplay.
-Sound- 9.5/10
So close to being perfect. all of the voice actors did a great job and delivered their lines with emotion. The musical score is incredible and all of the guns have a unique sound. Only complaint; the Metal Gears still sound like animals.
-Game Play- 9.9/10
A new easy to use controller scheme has been introduced, and no more over the head camera. A 360 third person camera is used now with a mix of first person and over the shoulder camera. A new addition to the game is Drebin. This allows you to buy weapons and ammo at anytime. Now players who crave blowing a ton of crap up get their chance, and players who enjoy stealth and hiding can still do that. Weapons can now be upgraded and customized. A few new items have been added such as the Mark II. This is a mini- Metal Gear designed for scouting. Some parts of the game New context sensitive attacks make the game have more of an action feel. Be advised, you will play for about 30 min. and then have about 10-45 min. of cut scenes. If you didn't like how the previous titles played, you will love this.
-Story- 9/10
The story ties up every loose end in the series. Olga's child, Raiden, Rose, Meryl, Eva, Big Boss, and of course, Solid and Liquid Snake: all of their stories are explained. The story is still a little confusing, but it sure makes MGS2 a lot easier to understand. Be sure you at least know what the basic story of the series is.
You play as Solid Snake who is rapidly aging. He is sent to the middle east as a UN inspector looking at the PMCs (private military corporations) but you really are looking for Liquid Snake who has taken over Ocelots body. You have to meet up with Rat Patrol 01, a UN team sent to monitor the PMC's. The war economy has fueled PMC's which Liquid has plans for. A very cinematic story. I sometimes forgot I was playing a game and thought I was watching a movie.
-Overall- 9.7/10
By far, the best in the series. The new Drebin system make the game a lot more interesting as in the game is not as linear anymore. There are multiple secrets to unlock and by the end, you will be satisfied. Just be ready for a 45 min. end cut scene that starts out nice but by the end, you'll be happy it's over because it becomes very verbose. Even if you are new to the series, it is a great game.
