Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories (魔界戦記ディスガイア2 Makai Senki Disugaia Tsū) the second installment in the Disgaea series. The game was developed by Nippon Ichi Software for the PlayStation 2 and released in Japan on February 23, 2006, in North America on August 29, 2006, in Europe on November 3, 2006 and in Australia on October 27, 2006. The game was subsequently released for the PlayStation Portable in Japan on March 26, 2009, in North America on September 8, 2009, in Europe on February 5, 2010 and in Australia on February 5, 2010. It was published by Nippon Ichi Software in Japan, by NIS in North America, KOEI in Europe and by THQ in Asia and the Pacific. The music was composed by Tenpei Sato. The game received somewhat mixed reviews although fans of the series for the most part have praised it.
The game centers around Adell who miraculously escaped a curse which turned all humans into demons. The story chronicles his attempts to overthrow the Overlord of the Netherworld and free his family from the curse which the Overlord had levied against the human population fifteen years ago. The story focuses on Adell and his relationship with Rozalin who is Zenon's (the Overlord) daughter.
Game play is set up like a traditional tactical RPG with battles taking place on a grid system placed upon various areas. There is little change from the first installment with virtually unlimited customization and the return of the Item World and the Assembly. The only real change was the addition of a Land of carnage area which could be accessed after completing missions where the enemies were harder and the rewards even greater..
The game, as par for the series occupies a certain niche market and while it has sold reasonably well it is still mostly played by hard core fans of the series and specialists who enjoy such open leveling games.
