Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten (魔界戦記ディスガイア4 Makai Senki Disugaia Fō) is the fourth game released in the Disgaea series. The game was released for the PlayStation 3 in Japan on February 24, 2011, and is due to be released in North America on September 30, 2011 and in Europe on August 1, 2011. The game was developed and published by Nippon Ichi Software. Takehito Harada was the lead artist and the music was composed by Tenpei Sato. The game received mostly positive reviews upon it's release although the series does somewhat operate in something of a niche market being considered by most to be a tactical RPG.
The story takes place, as all Disgaea games do, in The Netherworld and centers around Valvatorez, a 400 ye old vampire who renounced his powers after he failed to frighten a young girl named Astina. Due to his age and declining powers he has taken a job as a caretaker in the Prinny Prison under the corrupt present regime. He decides, with his allies Fuuka (a dead school-girl meant to be a Prinny), Fenrich (his friend caretaker in the prison), Emizel (the president's son), Vulcano (the angel of greed) and Desco (a man-made demon) to overthrow the system and install himself as Overlord.
The basic game mechanics is pretty much the same as the previous installments. At heart the game is a tactical RPG where battles take place on a grid overlaid over the various area maps. A couple of changes which were introduced in Disgaea 3 are carried over. The game will from reports be much more political and more story driven concerning the entire system as opposed to individuals.
The game has sold well in Japan and time will only tell how it is received here in the States. Once the release occurs updates will be posted here.
