God of War III was published by Sony Computer Entertainment and developed by Santa Monica Studio for the Playstation 3. The game was released in North America on March 16, 2010, in Australia on March 18, 2010, in Europe on March 19, 2010 and on March 25, 2010 in Japan The game was directed by Stig Asmussen and written by Marianne Krawcyzk, Stig Asmussen,Ariel Lawrence and William Weissbaum. The game, as is the norm for the series was highly anticipated and actually sold @400,000 more copies than GOWII in the first week of it's release. God of War III is garnered, as did the previous installments in the series very high review marks both from gamers and from critics. Many actually consider it to not only be one of the best games for the PlayStation 3 but also one of the best games across all platforms.
The story basically is Kratos ultimate attempt to overthrow the Gods of Olympus. At first he teams up with the Titans but soon discovers they have betrayed him as well and he is cast into Hades. The game chronicles his struggles to escape from Hades and exact his revenge upon the Olympians.
The game play is almost identical to the previous installments with a couple of small changes. The biggest change is that each weapon now has a magic attribute as well which can be utilized in battle. Kratos also has a couple of secondary weapons which are actually necessary in certain battle conditions/foes. The mechanics are pretty much the same as well with Kratos being forced to solve puzzles and explore areas to advance the story, the entire time defeating various enemies. Boss battle utilize the same slow attack system as before with various buttons being utilized to preform the killing blows.
This game continued the high standards the previous versions installments set and actually upped the bar a bit. Not only did the game win various awards but is considered by many to be almost the perfect game. The game did, somewhat, end the main story line (told in GOW I, II and III) but developers have already stated that the story is far from over..
