-Visuals- 8/10
For the most part, the graphics in the game do there job nicely. The dark tones used throughout the game give the feeling that you are in a city that's been left for dead. Even when it's day and bright, the city still feels dark. While the environment of Empire City is well done, is becomes a weakness as the game continues. I became bored with the same looking buildings, cars, and city district designs. It certainly isn't bad, but like the game, it gets old.
-Sound- 8/10
The sound does what it's supposed to do; it makes you feel as if you are in a city after a disaster. The voice acting works as well. There really is not much in terms of sound to blow you away.
-Game play- 8.3/10
Ever play Spiderman 2? If you have, inFAMOUS will feel very familiar. Empire City is an open world allowing you to jump from rooftop to rooftop and go where you want, for the most part. By completing story missions, more and more of the city is opened up to you. There is a gang system implemented in inFAMOUS as well. The city is controlled by gangs and completing side missions, missions that random citizens give you, will drive out the gangs in the area. This aspect is done fairly well.
Your electric powers are done well and the control scheme is easy to learn. Hopping from rooftop to rooftop is easy to do, most of the time. The developers used and auto- target feature when it comes to jumping. In other words, depending on where you are jumping, the game will automatically assist you in landing the jump. A problem I ran into was the game landing me where I didn't want to go, which would put me in the line of fire when I was sneaking up on enemies.
Cole's electric powers allow him to heal himself from any electric source. I fell in love with this aspect of the game play, as well as the other powers given to you as you advance in the game. Overall, the powers are fun to use and earning experience allows you to level up those powers. The karma system adds a bit of a random factor. Nearly everything you do will give you positive or negative karma points. These points will decide which powers are available to you.
The mission designs are fun, for a while. As you advance in the game, new types of missions become available. These new missions are nothing great though, usually making you destroy armored vehicles, rescuing hostages, and escorting prisoners to jail. These missions can be broken down to two categories: destroy and protect. It just gets a little old doing the same 5 types of missions over and over.
-Story- 8.5/10
You play as Cole, a regular guy who gains powers after a delivery mission goes wrong. As a result, Cole gains electric powers and he finds himself caught up in a battle between the gangs that roam Empire City and the US government. Both sides want the Ray Sphere, the device that exploded giving Cole his powers. The story unfolds slowly and with a bit of predictability.
-Overall- 8.1/10
A somewhat over hyped game. inFAMOUS is at times fun, but it gets old and boring. Cole makes an interesting character and the story could easily be a movie plot. I look forward to seeing what changes Sucker Punch makes for inFAMOUS 2.
