-Visuals- 9.5/10
When game attempts to be a "period piece" (this game is set circa 1930's England then it needs to succeed, this game goes above and beyond expectations. The visual aspect is to say the least stunning. While I will not say the graphics are movie quality when you combine the color palettes with the artwork and style you get a result which simply is breath taking. The movements of the characters aren't quite as good but to be honest I seldom even noticed.
-Sound- 7.8/10
The voice acting is way over the top, but I think it was meant to be that way and adds to the over all creepiness of the game. The music itself is pretty good but the sounds played during the "battles" could get a tad irritating after awhile.
-Gameplay- 6/10
The battle system is, well, let's just say you are a weakling, and the best bet in pretty much all the battles, at least at first, is simply to run. The game is more about putting the pieces of a puzzle together and solving the mystery of what the rule of the rose is as opposed to an action game. I have heard the game described as survival horror and I cannot think of a more apt description..survive and get to the next mystery is pretty much the idea here.
-Story- 9.1/10
You play as 19 year old Jennifer who is kidnapped and held in a zeppelin which is peopled by mostly by a sadistic young group of children called the red Crayon Aristocrats, whose idea of fun is torture and humiliation. The game itself quickly becomes a seriously in-depth psychological thriller in which the main story line is your attempt to figure out A; why you were abducted and B: exactly what is going on.
-Overall- 8.4/10
Over all the story combined with the artwork makes the game very enjoyable, as long as you understand that the game is not your typical shot 'em up slasher type game
