-Visuals- 9.0/10
I found the game to be a visual feast! It's not Uncharted 2 realism but what it is is still done wonderfully. Basically it reminds me of a cel-shaded video game with brilliant colors (even the Noir sections show great usage of light and dark in the absence of gaudy colors), wonderful backgrounds and great fluidity of movements with no bleeds or blurs. The various levels are all done remarkably well most especially considering that each level is totally, and I mean totally individualistic (minus the fact that each level for each character is similar, i.e. 2099 is in a futuristic city, Noir takes place all in shadows etc.) I especially loved the Sandman, Deadpool and Kraven levels. Overall simply a really nice looking game to look at and be immersed into.
-Sound- 8.5/10
Does the job without being obtrusive, what more can you ask. The voice acting is overall very well done, once again Deadpool steals the show, he is simply freaking hilarious and Spidey is wonderfully done as well, perfectly sarcastic and witty which is certainly the webslingers modus operandus, My only real complaint was Madame Web's "helpful" hints in battle which are so repetitious they annoyed me to death, especially with Scorpion's boss battle, which is a mother! But tat minor annoyance is pretty much it, other than that a solid aspect of the game.
-Gameplay- 8.9/10
Basically each Spider-Man has his own special abilities, although each has for the most part similar style attacks, except for Noir Spidey, who relies pretty much exclusively on stealth. Each chapter has four missions which feature four distinct settings and four different villains to conquer in order to regain the tablet fragments. You must use a different approach with each of these missions. For instance in the Sandman mission you will need to douse thugs and Sandy himself with water in order to successfully attack while in the Scorpion mission you will use his own acidic eggs to weaken doors and enemies alike. What makes the system fun is that minus some shaky (and questionable) camera work and the occasional simply BS programming the system works pretty much extremely well. Spidey attacks like he should, moves pretty good and his special attacks and web slinging are all, for the most part top notch. I guess if I had to complain a bit I'd say perhaps they attempted to incorporate too many moves and should have simplified the attacks a bit and made the controls a tad tighter, but still overall I seldom felt it was simply a button masher action game and I enjoyed the various challenges involved in discovering exactly how to finish a level and dispatch the villains. Overall solid work, it's not great and it could have had a tad tighter control system but by no stretch of the imagination is it balky or unresponsive.
-Story- 8.0/10
A stone tablet of power was broken into pieces and ended up in the hands of various super villains across four different dimensions. You play as each Spider-Man who inhabits these dimensions. Present day Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Man Noir and Ultimate Spider-Man. The story really only loosely ties together in what is essentially different missions in each area, it's still fun though!
-Overall- 8.6/10
This is, especially for Spidey fans, an amusing game. Notice i said amusing, it's not great but it is a wonderful way to enjoy a 45 romp (about the average time for a mission) through Spidey's world(s) and a fun way to kick some super villain booty. BTW, I pretty much loved all of the bosses, although Electro could have looked neater, lol. They were each definitely distinct personalities and the back and forth dialogue they had with Spidey added great fun. The battles were, for the most part, fun and challenging without making me want to throw my controller away, Goblin and Noir level was tons of fun IMO, and the added bonus stuff was interesting as well. Overall this is a solid game and will certainly be a solid second place behind Arkham Asylum as the best of the comic hero games I have played.
