-Visuals- 9.1/10
I'm going to raise the graphics score ever so slightly based on one simple factor. To my eye the colors look a tad more vibrant. There are, thus admitted, quite a few new animations and some newer ballparks but over all I don't think it's huge improvement, better than '08. The camera angles are still wonderful as are the stadiums. The players rendering is also extremely well doe as well although yet once again the people in the stands are repeated many, many times.
-Sound- 9.0/10
The announcers here do a very, very good job, only occasionally will they say something which doesn't quite fit and normally it will be about the chances of a hard hit ground ball being fielded or about the possibility of extra bases. Of course eventually you will get somewhat tired of hearing the same old comments but that is inevitable, after all, there is only so much room on the disc. The sound of the bat hitting the ball is great, the boos and cheers of the fans reflect what is going on and the music fits nicely in recreating the feel of being at a real game. The addition of custom chants and ways to razz players is nice and the music to me much more enjoyable, however, I do wish the announcers could have had new comments, I am sick of hearing the exact same ones from last year, so..no change in score.
-Gameplay- 9.1/10
If it ain't broke don't fix it. The gameplay from '08 was spot on, so why change it. I did find the hitting to be a tad tougher (not sure but it seems the pitchers breaking balls are a tad slower and break a tad more, I kept pulling the ball or simply swung way too early). I also feel the hitter AI is a tad better, miss a fastball on a good hitter and it's see ya later! I do like two changes in Road to the Show a lot. One change is the ability to train more, for instance , the hitting coach might decide you need more practice hitting LHP's so he'll schedule a batting session where you can improve. The second addition is that as the ball is hit (only in RTTS) it will have a red corona, this makes spotting the ball off the bat (especially in day games) much, much easier. Everything else is still the same, guess the pitch, interactive swing analysis, throwing to base or cut-off man, etc, etc.
-Story- N/A
It's baseball
-Overall- 9.1/10
A slight, and I mean slightly better score than last year, to be honest it's pretty much the same game, and why change what is by far the best baseball video game available!
