-Visuals- 9.3/10
The backgrounds are really well done, the issues arise on the close-ups. While still very nice the attention to detail I'd like isn't always present. The objects scattered for collection would be somewhat hard to spot a lot of the time if it wasn't for the fact that they glow. The enemies themselves look very nice, I especially like the Big Daddy's and the Little Sisters. The character renditions all have their differences and I felt they were nicely done as well. It's really too bad the entire game didn't always look as good up close as it does from far away...now...having said that it's still head and shoulders above the vast majority of games out there.
-Sound- 9.9/10
The Big Daddy's walking is an awesome sound, the voice acting simply incredible, make sure and listen to all of the diaries, not only do they add to the story but the emotions evoked are great to say the least. The various weapons sound effects are so well done it feels like a movie and the enemies murmuring, yelling is also unreal good. I cannot imagine any game meshing gameplay and sound as well as this one is, as good yes, better, no, not perfect but as close as any game I've played.
-Gameplay- 9.6/10
A very, very simple game to master as far as controls are concerned, and I love that! It has a very easy interface with the buttons pushed and the actions taken. The movements are seamless and the views are very seldom obstructed by bad camera views. The weapons are upgradeable (although not in the classic sense, here you have to find weapon upgrade stations) and ammo is plentiful, or at least it was to me. The really fun part is the use of Plasmids to enhance your attacks, there are various bio-upgrades that you perform on yourself, from heat to ice to using bees to attack to hypnotizing Big Daddy's (makes them thing you are a Little Sister) and each of these is also upgradeable based on Adam collect. There are various machines which sell everything from ammo to gene upgrades to items and many safes to hack (robotic enemies can also be hacking making them your allies) and I found collecting dollars to be no issue. The shear amount of things to upgrade and ways to do so make this an awesome game. It's not quite up to Fallout 3 as far as different things to use and ways to use them but it's still a great system which is also what I'll cal free form. The enemies you fight will have strengths and weaknesses (which you can research using a camera) however, you can choose to fight them using whatever weapon you choose. The game is somewhat linear which detracts a tad, but...you can go back to any previous explored area to gain more items, upgrade weapons, collect more money or simply fight more enemies!
PS I've read of glitches and issues with textures and slow downs, I experienced one slow down, but other than that I experience zero issues whatsoever.
-Story- 9.4/10
The story starts in 1960 when the plane you are on crashes and you find yourself in Rapture. A Utopian society founded as a refuge from all of man's horrors and faults.....turns out pretty much all of those issues are there as well...then...well....you have to play to find out, let's just say the story will unfold and keep you enthralled from beginning to end!
-Overall- 9.6/10
One huge complaint!!! It was over too #$@%#&@ quick! Other than that it is simply one of the best games I've ever played. Once the DLC is available to the PS3 I'm jumping on the game again, it's that good, a couple of different endings, a story reads like a really good sci-fi novel, simply a great game.
