-Visuals- 9.5/10
The visuals range anywhere from fantastic to simply unbelievable. The backgrounds are stunning in their beauty and the character renditions are clean, crisp and certainly anime but superb in their look and feel. I have certainly seen more realistic looking anime but seldom have I seen anime which is this startling in it's color, movement and vibrancy. They should all aspire to be this good.
-Sound- 10/10
WOW...WOW...WOW...I am threatened to leave it at that, because yes, it's that freaking good. Instead I will simply say, yes...it's that freaking good. Words cannot describe the emotion music evokes and thus I cannot even begin to describe how good this soundtrack is, it simply must be heard and not spoken about.
-Characters- 9,8/10
Shizuku shows just the right amount of confusion as a young girl on her way to becoming a woman and manages to not delve into typical angst ridden stereotypical teenage cliches. She is assertive and yet at the same time very fragile in her psyche. She simply portrays her emotions wonderfully and invites you into her dreams, fears and hopes. Seiji is the confidant boy who hies his fears and hopes behind a thin facade and the supporting cast, especially The Baron and Moon flesh out a wonderful group of people who's interactions show us that life is sometimes what happens while we are busy to making plans (to steal a quote)
-Story- 10/10
OK...let's get this out of the way. This, for all intensive purposes is a "chic flick". Not only does it fit that genre but it is to a certain (read pretty much) a "teenager chic flick". Having said that, at one point in time we were all young. At one point in time we were all both unsure and yet equally as sure of exactly what we wanted to do with our life, the problem was how to accomplish these goals and/or how to actually find some goals. This is NOT a movie about teenage love, it is a movie about humans and the way we feel, the way we grow and the conflict which our emotions love playing with us in our attempt to grow and become what we choose to be and our attempt to choose between what we think is right, what society and our family thinks is right and what is actually the right choice for us an an individual. Life is seldom easy, choices abound and what we choose often has large ramifications, both short term and long term. This movie does an incredible job portraying this journey through life. And I for one enjoyed every single minute of this journey.
-Overall- 9.9/10
I can imagine, perhaps, an anime as good. I simply cannot imagine one better. This movie will make you laugh, make you sad, make you concerned and worried and make you feel good about life. End of story, simply as perfect as anything can get to perfection.
